My goal used to be to visit every single country in the world. I haven't quite managed to do that yet, but I have already travelled to a large number of them. The key to people and culture is language, which is why I am an enthusiastic language learner myself. I am just as happy to pass on this enthusiasm in my German lessons. What is the best way to learn a language? A pleasant atmosphere and above all a lot of fun and humour! Outside of class, I take care of all kinds of projects related to learning German.

Hi, my name ist Nicky and I’m originally from Hessen (middle part of Germany). Before having studied Modern Languages, Cultures and Business with a major in linguistics (English and French), I was an Au-Pair in the US. I have been living in Berlin since 2016 and worked as an educational consultant in different schools. My biggest passion is traveling - I haven't been everywhere yet, but it's on my list. Other than exploring the world, I like reading, hiking and discovering new (vegan) restaurants and cafés. Leading speakeasy Ost means focusing on quality and making sure everything runs smoothly. Above all, I want students to feel comfortable while mastering German in a cozy setting. And equally, I aim to foster a work environment where my wonderful team feels happy and is able to evolve and learn.

Hello, I'm Judith. I grew up in Southern Germany. I've been living in Berlin since 2015 and completed my university degree in American studies here. In my free time, I enjoy going to concerts and watching handball. At speakeasy, you’ll find me at the front desk – I am happy to answer any questions you might have!

I am German with a penchant towards non-standard. After a long time in Germany, I made my way to India and worked there for many years. I like to travel, enjoy learning new languages, and deal with the respective culture and countries while learning a language, of course with the food as well. Now in Berlin, I will take care of your inquiries and look forward to being in contact with the whole world.

I have Chinese roots, but was born and raised in Germany. Since my childhood, I have been very interested in languages ​​and cultures. I also like traveling and have been able to explore many different places. As a new Berliner, I am now happy to have the possibility to experience the incomparable diversity in this wonderful city. At speakeasy Berlin-Ost, I lead the telc team and am the contact person when it comes to telc exams.

Hi! My name is Raquel, I come from a small city close to Madrid and I am passionate about languages, something that has also marked my professional life! I am so interested in learning about different cultures that I decided to study Japanese studies and I even ended up working as a cultural assistant in translation projects (and for videogames!). After more than five years as an English teacher in Spain, which is what I have mostly dedicated myself to in my country, I decided to expand my horizons and live an international experience, which brought me to Berlin. I had already spent a semester here in 2018, studying sociolinguistics at Potsdam University, and that experience was so special that I knew I would return one day. Now I'm at speakeasy, enjoying the multicultural environment and I’m surrounded by and working with an amazing competitive team. I will be happy to help you via email, where I will answer queries mostly related to language visas. You can also find me from time to time at the front desk in Berlin Ost.

Lara | Course coordination

When I first left Italy to study in Sweden, I would have never imagined to still be living in Berlin 10 years later. It is a privilege to be working with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and it is a pleasure to be coordinating language courses at speakeasy. Every day is a challenge, an adventure! As course coordinator, my focus is on the well-being of our teachers as well as making sure that all courses are taking place successfully. When I am not answering e-mails, you can find me nose deep in a book or haunting my local gym.

Hi! My name is Amira and I'm currently working on my bachelor’s degree in sociology. My family's roots are in Mongolia and both my grandfathers used to travel to Eastern Germany in the 1980's to work for months at a time for several years. My family permanently moved to Berlin shortly after the German reunification, so I am the first child who was born and raised in a foreign country. Immediately after graduating high school, I moved to Vienna at 18 years old and lived there for three years. I was truly fascinated by the endless variety of dialects within the German language and how you subconsciously adapt your way of speaking to a new environment and start including it in your daily life – without even noticing.
