How do the Online Tutoring sessions work:

Our Online Tutoring sessions take place over Zoom. When you register for one of our courses, you will receive a link in your course information email so that you can log into the Zoom room at the scheduled time.

When you initially try to enter the Zoom room, you will first enter a waiting room and must wait a few minutes for the teacher to admit you to the Zoom room. The waiting room allows us to track the order that Students enter the call. The teacher will answer student questions in the order that the students arrive.

Live Online Tutoring – your speakeasy benefit

The teacher will spend a maximum of 5 or 10 minutes answering each question, in order to ensure that they able to answer as many questions as possible. Because the Online Tutoring sessions are open to students of all levels, do not be surprised if some of the other students ask questions that are still above your own level.

We help you with difficult grammar topics and other language questions.

  • If you are asking for clarification for a difficult grammar topic, be sure that you know the name of the topic you are struggling with so that the teacher knows exactly what to explain.
  • If you want to have a homework solution explained, please be prepared to tell the teacher which grammar topic the homework relates to and have the actual homework problem on hand so that the teacher can see it.
  • If you missed a class, the teacher of the Online Tutoring session will not know exactly which topic was taught in the class you missed. Therefore, before attending the Online Tutoring session, you must log onto the speakeasy Online Library and find out exactly what topic was covered in your class. That way, you can be sure to receive an explanation for exactly the topic which you missed.

Is the Online Tutoring session functionally a replacement class?

No. The Online Tutoring sessions are not meant to be a full replacement class for a class that was missed. Rather, they are intended to clarify unclear or difficult topics regarding grammar rules or homework questions. If you missed a class, you are still more than welcome to attend an Online Tutoring session and receive clarification about the topic that was covered in the class you missed. However, please be aware that the teacher of the Online Tutoring session will not have the time to go into as much detail as you would receive in your regular class.

I attended the Online Tutoring session but the teacher did not have enough time to answer my question. What should I do?

Though the teacher will try their best to answer everyone’s questions throughout the 2-hour session, sometimes, so many students attend that this is simply not possible. In this case, you are more than welcome to attend the next Online Tutoring session or you can ask your teacher in your regular class to provide an explanation.
